I Sam. 15:34-16:13 or Ezekiel 17:22-24
Psalm 20 or Psalm 92:1-4, 12-15
2 Cor. 5:6-10; 14-17 or 2 Cor. 5:6-17
Mark 4:26-34
Eternal God, we thank you today for this beautiful garden valley in which we dwell. We thank you for the nearby mountains with its forests. We thank you for the magnificent ocean which is close enough for us to enjoy.
We are extremely blessed to be sojourners in your beautiful world and we are grateful.
We ask your blessing on this journey of faith to which we have been called. We confess that very often the seen world seems much stronger than the unseen and that the world of certainty and sense seems much stronger than the world of faith and trust and risk. We look at the needs of the world and the daunting task of meeting even a small part of them seems overwhelming and impossible. We need your help, O God.
Help us this day to experience the power of faith which Jesus likened to a grain of mustard seed.
Help us to know that by faith your church can still move mountains.
Help us to know and to trust that even though we cannot see the results of our efforts immediately that there is something growing and coming to fruition and good will come.
Help us to know that life is better when we live with expectation and hope rather than pessimism and gloom and disillusionment.
Help us to know in spite of all of the assaults of evil in our world that you are still working in and through us.
Help us to scatter the seed of faith and to trust in your quiet working for good.
We need your help, O God. Increase our faith. Amen
